From raw data to comprehensive and valuable input for the invoicing process

KPN

KPN is a market leader in telecommunications and IT in the Netherlands. Through their fixed and mobile networks for telephony, data, and television, they serve both individual and business customers domestically and internationally. Additionally, they grant telecom providers access to their extensive networks through KPN Wholesale.

Validating, Enriching, and Grouping Raw Data

For KPN Wholesale, FIQAS processes many tens of millions of transactions daily with Abillity®, stemming from the use of the fixed network for telephony, even by other telecom providers. Telephone conversations running over KPN Wholesale’s fixed network are collected via a central mediation platform and presented to Abillity®. However, before this ‘raw’ data is suitable for invoicing, several adjustments must be made.

Abillity®‘s Transformation module acts as a continuous and fully automated ‘data pipeline,’ preparing incoming data for invoicing. This is achieved by validating, enriching, and grouping the data before delivering it to systems downstream (including invoicing and Business Intelligence purposes)

Enhancing Data Quality

Considering the high volume of consumption data, a system equipped to handle this influx robustly, swiftly, and adequately is necessary. This data ultimately translates into revenue (€€€), making a solid audit trail imperative. After all, ‘What goes in must come out, or should be accounted for,’ which is our motto for AccountAbillity®.

In order to generate accurate invoices, a billing system requires correct and complete data. Our Transformation module ensures that any issues regarding the quality of incoming data are identified and rectified at the beginning of the invoicing chain. This minimizes the need for error correction later in the invoicing process, preventing unwanted and costly work (such as rectifications and credits) for the finance department.

Nanda Kops-Assendelft, Analyst at FIQAS, states, “To enable KPN to monitor and manage these processes independently, the transformation module includes a web-based user interface. Administrators can follow and manage the transformation process, review validation errors, and often resolve them. Data that shouldn’t be invoiced can be blocked and removed from the process. The portal is a modern, fast, user-friendly environment with helpful overviews and features and, of course, meets all security requirements.”

Preprocessing Structured Data with Abillity®

Michel van Wissen, Director of KPN Wholesale, mentions, “FIQAS’s Abillity® platform offers a solution for the complex data conversion steps we encounter as a wholesale telecom provider. The structured preprocessing of the vast number of transactions we generate ensures that our invoicing processes are supplied with accurate data, enabling us to advance in digitalization. This preprocessing is a prerequisite for a successful and efficient invoicing process, allowing us to serve our customers better.”
